SUMMARY:Join CNW and partners to remove invasive plants and improve wildlife habitat near Greenwater\, WA
DESCRIPTION:Join Conservation Northwest\, the U.S. Forest Service and the Ruffed Grouse Society for a work party to remove invasive plant species and improve critical wildlife habitat. We’ll be tackling scotch broom and other invasives and thinning some saplings. \n\n\n\nWe will meet at the Greenwater Fire Station\, then park a few miles south and walk to the work site from there. You can expect a half-mile walk into the work area. \n\n\n\nOur work in the Greenwater River corridor will improve foraging opportunities for elk\, grouse\, and other species that benefit from early successional habitat. Our efforts help create resilient spaces for wildlife to thrive. This work falls under the Central Cascades Watershed Restoration program\, which aims to restore\, connect and protect wildlife corridors\, critical habitat\, and watersheds around the central Cascades region. \n\n\n\nIf interested in volunteering\, please bring a water bottle\, sturdy footwear\, and clothing for rain or shine. Lunch is provided but feel free to bring your own if preferred. This is a hand-tool work party with hand saws and loppers. Tools will be on-site but please bring your own if you’d like. \n\n\n\nPlease sign-up by using the RSVP form. We hope to see you there on May 14! \n\n\n\nJen SyrowitzConservation Program Manager

SUMMARY:Rainier Audubon's May Birdathon
DESCRIPTION:The Month of May is Birdathon!\n\n\n\nIt’s “birding for dollars!”It’s time for the May Birdathon! It’s fun and easy to participate. Simply count as many bird species in one day as you can! Choose any day in May. Have family\, friends\, and co-workers sponsor you\, then go birding!  Afterwards\, send your sponsors a list of the birds you saw\, and they will donate X amount for each species (i.e. $1 or another amount).  Or they can donate a flat fee. 100% of the proceeds support Rainier Audubon activities in south King County.  \n\n\n\nYou choose how you want to participate. Stay at home and count species at your feeder\, visit your favorite birding spots or create your own Birdathon experience. Do you love photography? You could share pictures of the birds with your sponsors. Or do you like a friendly competitive game? Perhaps do a fun challenge by matching their donations! \n\n\n\nSponsors are happy to support your efforts\, and many look forward to being sponsors again.  They especially enjoy your list of bird species seen. While you can choose any day in May\, we encourage you to do Saturday\, May 14th.\, which is the Global Big Day.Why do the Birdathon? It’s fun\, and Rainier Audubon needs your support!  Membership dues to Rainier Audubon only covers a portion of the costs of running a successful Audubon chapter.Birdathon is our largest fundraiser. We depend on it\, and you\, to provide a stable funding base for our many activities and services such as: programs and speakers fees\, environmental education activities\, conservation committee activities\, printing and mailing our newsletter\, and general administrative costs. With your support\, we can continue to provide these loved services and wouldn’t have to cut back any of our activities due to lack of funds! It’s simple. Collect sponsors and count bird species in your backyard or on walks. The Sponsor Sheet is included below. We may not be physically together\, but together we can accomplish a lot. Join us. As you join in\, please respect the COVID-19 phase level for the county where you choose to count birds. Governor Inslee has recently lifted these bans\, but we encourage you to limit gatherings to families and close friends. \n\n\n\nDownload the Sponsor Sheet \n\n\n\nMake a Donation Now

SUMMARY:Harney County Migratory Bird Festival
DESCRIPTION:Spend an amazing weekend witnessing the spectacular spring migration in the Harney Basin of Southeast Oregon. View thousands of migratory birds as they rest and feed in the open spaces of Oregon’s high desert. Held annually in April in Harney County. \n\n\n\nThe Harney County Migratory Bird Festival was first held in 1981 to celebrate the large annual migration of birds passing through Harney Basin on the Pacific Flyway. Harney Basin is one of the three most important areas left in the western United States for spring migratory birds stopping on their way north. \n\n\n\nOver 300 species of birds use the refuge throughout each year\, making Harney Basin a bird watcher’s paradise. Today\, we continue to celebrate the migratory birds’ return each year with guided tours led by experts\, workshops\, and fun activities for both youth and adults.
