Rainier Audubon to the Rescue 2 April 2026

A previous newsletter article introduced our chapter’s elite, “Amphibious” unit engaged in a covert mission at Flaming Geyser State Park. Chapter members were shocked to discover our Rainier Audubon team was trained to a US Navy “Seal Team” level.

These same RAS members, C****, O****, and S**** recently graduated from the “Arctic Wildlife Survey and Survival” course hosted by the Norwegian Military. Our RAS unit was the only North American team invited to receive this elite training. Details of the location remain classified, however, approval was given by the Norwegian Defense Minister, to release images. Team Rainer used a cutting-edge “Dynamic Area Mobile Feeder Evaluation Survey Transect”. (DAMFEST) bird survey technique. Counting birds at static feeders in these hypothermic conditions is risky. This more efficient method uses pre-filled feeders carried along the survey transect route. The double set of hiking poles increases stability on near-vertical icy trails.
