I enjoyed this book so much, I read it three times. I feel as if I am right there, with Carroll, walking through the swamps and bogs, observing the turtles, muskrats and other creatures that live there. The author also shares with us his knowledge of the many plants and insects he has come to know as well. His detailed descriptions of these most treasured areas are beautiful and eloquent. There are several pages with lovely black and white illustrations which were drawn by the author himself.
Carroll has a passion and respect for all life forms, and this book reveals that fact.
